[it's a gorgeous day today! the sun is shining, birds are singing... all in all, the beautiful outdoors are more tempting than they've ever been (which is a good thing, considering the more... reclusive nature of a few of the musebox's inhabitants).

and that is why somebody has set up a gigantic picnic! there are foods of all kinds, from savory to the sweet... although, for some reason, one end of the blanket has been taken up almost entirely with different varieties of ice cream. how strange!

[flinching back automatically before he can catch himself. is that what he sounds like? no wonder that was so effective for frightening others.

still, it's a challenge, and he's never been one to back down from one of those. besides, he wants a dango, too. the other is probably young, back from when he was still in the forest— he wouldn't have learned generosity yet. if he lets him win, he likely won't get any dango at all, and he'll have established himself as weak— not something he wants, if he wants the other to listen to him at all later on.

he turns the flinch into a bristle, pulling his shoulders back and straightening up even as he replies with a deeper warning growl of his own.]

[it's the tapping that he notices first; too loud and regular to be animal footsteps, and too obviously against the ground to be a bird or something. bad enough that it's something he doesn't know, but even more worrisome is the fact that it's coming from the direction of his woods, the ones he came from to eat some of the good-smelling things that had been put out.
