[he knew, when he came to the city to pursue his singing career, that he'd be away from his pack. he'd thought, at the time, that it would be okay. he was the omega wolf in any case, and he'd been looking forward to the freedom.

(his own proclivities notwithstanding. that was a separate thing, somehow elusively different. he could ask to be beaten or bound, and find someone to oblige him. he'd never asked to be the omega.)

but it was lonelier than he'd expected, being the only wolf he knew here. being out from under the hierarchical bullying of his own pack was nice; the lack of anyone to run with or howl with or just curl up with in a furry heap on lazy nights was rather less so.

the ceaseless busyness of writing, recording, performing, and interviewing is enough to put it from his mind, sometimes. but sometimes not. and especially not during lulls in activity, when he has days free to himself, wide open and lonely.

he sits slumped on a park bench, disconsolately flipping pebbles into a fountain.]

[shrugging, with a rueful chuckle] Not anything specific, really. I... haven't met anyone like you before, either, so...

...ah. Actually, speaking of territory... Do you hunt at all, or...?

Ah, my pack would, sometimes - we don't really need to hunt to survive, but sometimes a bit of wild rabbit is just what the heart needs, you know?

[he unconsciously licks his lips a little - though his expression is wistful]

... They live farther out, though. I moved into the city for my career.

[headtilt]

...By yourself?

[he looks slightly sheepish]

Well, it's not like I could expect the pack to come with me...

[he can't help but feel a pang of sympathy at that. he knows from experience that it's bad enough being alone; he can only imagine how much worse it would be for someone with the instinct to live in packs...

something's slightly off about the strength of that reaction, though, and after a moment he realizes there's a distinctly proprietary edge to the turn of his thoughts and his sympathy. it's a good thing he hasn't fed that recently, or his sudden flush would be a lot more visible.

Just because he cares for one wolf pack doesn't mean that all wolves in his territory are his, regardless of instinct telling him otherwise. that goes doubly so for a werewolf, who would be more than capable of taking care of himself and wouldn't need his protection at all.]

A-aah. Well, if any of them change their mind about that, you can tell them they would be welcomed. ...Anyway, you don't have to go that far out for rabbit; there are at least a few in the woods near my father's house, among other things. I wouldn't mind asking him for hunting rights for you.

[...not that the werewolf not needing his protection seems to be stopping him from being embarrassingly eager about offering it anyway. sigh.]

[he looks surprised - like he wasn't expecting generosity, and isn't quite sure what to do with it]

Ah, I... I couldn't possibly inconvenience you like that.

[oh, but does it sound lovely. the wolf in him yearns to run again]

[chuckling] Believe me, it isn't an inconvenience. I usually run closer to the mountains, and Father doesn't hunt at all, so neither of us would miss anything you took. ...Besides, he keeps horses. Too many rabbits means holes they can step in and hurt themselves, so really, you'd be doing us a favor.

Well, I... if you really don't mind, I'd love to take you up on that. Thank you!

I-it'd be nice to be around other non-humans, too. I don't know any wolves here.

[grinning— not showing off his fangs, but not really bothering to hide them, either]

You're welcome, and likewise. My father may live nearby, but... well, that's not quite the same as having someone closer to my own age to talk to.

Anyway, I'm Kaito Kagamine. Forgive me for not offering my hand; I just don't want to inflict my sunblock on you.

[he laughs] It is kinda strong...! Humans just don't take our noses into account, do they?

I'm Kaito Shion. It's great to meet you.

[finally settling down on the bench next to him]

It's good to meet you, too. ...You said you were a singer?

Mmhmm! I'm fairly new, but I've released a couple of singles already.

[looking impressed, and almost... wistful?]

That's amazing. ...What's it like?

Kind of busy. I don't get a lot of time off. But I really love performing... that makes it all worth it.

[shaking his head] You don't have problems with crowds, then?

Not really. They're there for me, for what I can give them. That's a great feeling!

If I get too nervous, I just think of them as pack, and pretend I'm the alpha.

[laughing again] I bet your bigger fans wouldn't mind that at all.

[laughing with] Well, they might be disappointed if they were expecting a good alpha...

Not the leader type?

Not really. I'm the low wolf.

[hissing quietly in sympathy, grimacing]

...Damn. I hope your pack's kinder about that than mine.

They're not so bad. Granted, I don't miss the bullying, but--

Wait. Your pack? I... I thought you were a vampire?

[making a bit of a face at the mention of bullying. maybe he doesn't get the whole omega thing because he's not a real wolf of any sort... but then again, he'd never understood why siblings were supposed to bully each other, either.

grinning again at Kaito's obvious surprise, though]

I am. However, I'm also something of a caretaker for a pack of grey wolves living near the mountains.

Really! I didn't think a true wolf pack would be that welcoming. They're awfully shy...

They were. It took me a long time and a lot of work to get them to warm up to me at all. ...Of course, it helped that it was winter and I was bringing them enough food for everyone.
