Which is good, because Len's mansion has a lot of windows. And he's up early, before sundown, waiting for his new housekeeper to arrive.]

[Len's floors are clean enough, at least - no jumping over obstacles as Len leads Kaito to one of the spare rooms.

... which is, astonishingly, spotless. there is a desk with writing supplies and a clock, two dressers, and a full-sized bed... and, even with that, still a reasonable amount of floor space]

I emptied out the drawers for you, so the dressers are all empty - and I took down the art I had hanging up in here, so you can do whatever you like with the walls. There's a walk-in closet [he opens the door to show it] and I meant to free up a bookcase to bring in here for you, but I didn't have time, sorry about that...

[trying desperately not to gawk and failing miserably]

I-it's fine, I wouldn't have had anything to put on it...

[clutching his bag to himself and cautiously approaching the bed, with the air of one trying to avoid setting off a trap]

Go ahead and take some time to settle in! I'll give you the tour of the place when you're ready.

[he hesitates, because he'd said he would get started around now, and despite his own misgivings, he's committed to this. he doesn't want to give Dr. Kagamine any reason whatsoever to regret this or have second thoughts.

...but he doesn't look like he minds, and besides, the HUEG BED is calling him.

he finally nods, shyly]

...I won't take long.

All right! You don't need to rush yourself, though. Today you should just get a feel for the place. I don't expect you to get right into cleaning up all of my mess tonight, haha...!

I'll be downstairs getting dinner ready if you have any questions.

Yes, dinner! I'm making Blutwurst and Apfelspätzle. Ah, and of course steamed rice and gyoza, if the German food is too strange for you... I won't be offended if you have to turn it down, don't worry!

[it might be kind of endearing... if it weren't also starting to get kind of creepy. the addition of more crazy foreigner stuff isn't helping that particular impression, either.

shrugging uncomfortably] I'm not that picky.

Ah, all right! I guess I'd best get to it, then.

Go ahead and make yourself at home!

[and off he goes]

[waiting until he's sure the man is gone, and then finally unslinging the duffel bag from his shoulder and flopping onto the bed on his belly. he hasn't been near a Western-style bed in ages (or even a half-decent futon, for that matter), and he can't quite bring himself to pass up the opportunity to roll around on it for a bit, gleefully sprawling every which way in the process.

that highly important task taken care of, he takes a moment to contemplate his luggage. does he really want to unpack yet?

...no. no, he's still having doubts as to whether it's really safe to stay or not, or even fully trust that he'll be allowed to stay if he decides it is. better to leave it all in one place, so he can grab it and run if he needs to. at least he's already used to living out of the bag...

since he's not unpacking, though, that means he has a couple of extra minutes before he should go looking for the kitchen; and a good thing, too, since he'd had to walk quite a bit to catch a bus that would get him anywhere near the mansion. he'll just take advantage of the spare time to rest a little, and then...]

[...and then the sun went down]

Dinner's ready, Kaito.

[making an incoherent noise and blinking groggily at him—

...and then he wakes up the rest of the way. flushing and hastily climbing off of the bed]

A-ah. [defensively] ... I had to walk a lot to get here.

No worries. It seems like you needed the sleep.

Are you ready to eat? The table's all set!

[stop being all cheerful at me when I'm sleepyyyyy. nodding and rubbing at one eye]

Mmm.

...Um. [sheepishly] What did you say you were making, again...? —I-in a language I can understand, if you don't mind...

...Ah, of course. I'm sorry.

Blood sausages - that's the Blutwurst, and the Apfelspätzle is... ah, how to say it in Japanese? Sort of a noodle-dumpling, with apple and brown sugar and butter.

And some Japanese food, in case that's too strange.

[...have the most disgruntled, wrinkly-nosed, "why-would-you-even" look, doctor]

...Maybe I'm a little picky. ... The apple-thing sounds good, though.

Aah, it's pretty strange if you're not used to it, I guess! There should be plenty for you to eat besides that, though. I think you will like the Apfelspätzle!

[he's all but bouncing on his feet. I WANT TO FEED YOU]

[...he can see that :P wrinkling his nose a little at the doctor's obvious enthusiasm, but giving him an expectant look.]

[he huffs an amused sort of sound before he can stop himself, and follows after. foooooood :9]

[they seem to be eating in the kitchen, rather than in the larger dining room; probably on account of the smaller table in the kitchen. it's sized perfectly for two people.

the table is COVERED WITH FOOD. there is the weird German food, and of course the steamed rice, and gyoza. and there's tea. and... that's about it. he appears to have made everything in quantity, however.

Len pulls out a chair for Kaito, smiling]

[he mumbles a quiet "thank you" as he takes it, but his attention is mostly on the food.

there's no way he'll be able to eat even half of this, and he doubts the doctor will either. there will be leftovers from this meal, and the doctor still has his hamburger, and realizing that... that's when it really hits him that he won't be going hungry tomorrow. maybe not ever again, if he's careful enough with this chance.

he doesn't smile, precisely, but the look he gives Len while waiting for him to sit is nowhere near as guarded as before.]
