he absolutely set himself up for that and he's still taken entirely off guard by how completely fucking precious that is. who the hell bullies a kid like this, huh? for that matter, it says words of her own character that she can still just say things like that even though she's regularly being picked on. ]

[ she giggles, looking mightily pleased with herself at his reaction. she'd almost expected to be scolded for saying something like that, but hearing him react so positively is... well, it's nice.

it's been a very long time since she's had anyone who isn't her grandmother be anything past tersely civil while talking to her. ]

I'll say something nice when I bring the food tomorrow, then!

[ he's sooooo dooooomed. heaving a huge mock-sigh ]

I guess I'll just have to brace for it, yeah?

[ looking ridiculously pleased with herself--

-- and then coming to an abrupt stop. She hesitates and then lifts her hand to point at a small cottage, tucked away into the side of the path, a little ways away from them. ]

Um... That's grandma's house.

...Ah, got it. You go on and say hi to your gran, okay? And I'll see you tomorrow.

[kunstlich]

Okay!

[ ... but she's making no move to run on ahead to the cottage and is instead looking up at him with a slightly worried expression. ]

... do you really want me to bring food tomorrow? Really?

[siegheulen]

[ ...reaching out to ruffle her bangs again ]

I'd like you to, yeah. Or... hey, even if you can't get the food, if you still wanna come I could use the company.

[kunstlich]

I'll bring the food! I'll bring lots!

[ she sounds so determined to fulfill this little task and beams at him proudly. ]

The start of the path when the sun's highest, right?

[ her wavering smile finally steadies and she beams at him again, giving him a little nod

and with that she finally makes her way up the path to the little cottage. she raises her hand to knock -- but before she does, she turns back to the path and lifts her hand to wave. ]

[ he waves in return, having waited to make sure she'd get in okay, and then slips off the path and almost immediately vanishes somehow into the foliage. ]
