KAITO: SHADOW GARBAGE AU EDITION OPEN POST

Because sometimes you love both the split personality and inner demons tropes way too much, and there's only one way to handle it.

THE AU IS RIDICULOUS, but all you really need to know is Kaito got humanity's malice dumped into his head along with ridiculous power, and his way of coping with both that and the trauma involved was to shove it all in with everything else he represses the heck out of and then completely dissociate himself from it. End result: what he thinks of as his inner monster has completely split off into a personality of its own, following the imagery and pattern left behind by the Shadow from that one time the Vocaloid Dressing Room had a Persona event.

(Please don't judge me.)

Feel free to pick a scenario, if you can't think of one just blank tag this sucker and I'll come up with something!

...he knows why. and he's abruptly going from zero to frightened and furious in no time at all, jerking to his feet to pin Harvey and snarl ]

[Well Harvey has no clue, and this is his Shadow, so he's not going to just lay there and take it even from Kaito.

That is to say, startled and feeling betrayed and winding up to anger himself, struggling immediately.]

[ Kaito still outweighs Harvey, though, and he isn't fucking around; as soon as he thinks he's got a clear shot he's going to try to dart in to close his mouth on Harvey's throat in threat. ]

Take it back, take it back! I trusted you—!

[Harvey doesn't freeze like any sensible creature with fangs to his throat would. He keeps struggling, utter lack of self preservation clear in how the fear is gone, how the only emotions filtering through their bond are betrayed confusion and anger.]

What did I do?!

[ Kaito has enough fear for both of them— he's echoing that betrayal and anger just as strongly, but primarily he's terrified and despairing in the same unreasoning way a young child left alone might be. ]

You ordered me!

[ clamping down harder and shaking ]

[Roarbarks, mouth open, his own fangs threatening even though he's pinned with Kaito's teeth to his throat. You know, basically helpless, even being shaken.]

What did I say?! I'll take it back but I don't know what I said and flipping out on me won't help!

[ growls furiously in response, but stops shaking Harvey ]

You told me to stop calling you cute, you might have told me to do other things that I didn't notice, you could, you could have—

[ what was that about not flipping out? ]

I don't know! I don't want to order you around or hurt you but I don't know how to stop doing it accidentally! If I just stop talking will it be better!?

[ wails, somewhere between a whine and a hearbroken howl ]

No! No, it wouldn't, it wouldn't, I—

[ and that is when he abruptly collapses against Harvey, human again with his arms wrapped around his neck instead of his teeth ]

[Stays a wolf beneath him, still tense and panting, but he doesn't flash fangs at him or bark again, so he's definitely feeling less threatened.]

Then what am I supposed to do?!

...Tell me not to follow any of your orders unless you tell me they're orders first. Including- including that one, you'd have to tell me it was an order first...

[ trailing off unsteadily. that isn't his Shadow anymore, but he's still badly shaken ]

[Whines, dropping his chin so he can lick Kaito's cheek, apologetic]

I order you to ignore any orders I give unless I say they're orders first.

[He's scared again, but it's of himself, deeply uncomfortable with wielding this power intentionally.]

[ scratching at Harvey's ruff, starting to calm down ]

...If I have to obey orders, I'd rather at least one of us be in control of what I'm being told.

[ relaxing the rest of the way when that comes out easily, letting himself slide off of Harvey to curl up against his side ]

[Rolls onto his side and curls up into a tight ball, hiding his face under his fox-like tail.]

[ continues petting his neck and jaw with slow soothing strokes ]

I know. It's— I'll be all right. Something like that I normally... I wouldn't even mind it much.

[ that's not entirely the truth— he would, he'd just have better control over his own feelings about it. just like Harvey would normally, too. ]

He thought we could handle doing at least this much for you... I did too but I guess we were both wrong about how much we think before we talk.
