KAITO: SHADOW GARBAGE AU EDITION OPEN POST

Because sometimes you love both the split personality and inner demons tropes way too much, and there's only one way to handle it.

THE AU IS RIDICULOUS, but all you really need to know is Kaito got humanity's malice dumped into his head along with ridiculous power, and his way of coping with both that and the trauma involved was to shove it all in with everything else he represses the heck out of and then completely dissociate himself from it. End result: what he thinks of as his inner monster has completely split off into a personality of its own, following the imagery and pattern left behind by the Shadow from that one time the Vocaloid Dressing Room had a Persona event.

Feel free to pick a scenario, if you can't think of one just blank tag this sucker and I'll come up with something!

so it is entirely possible that Tristan has noticed Kaito getting more and more withdrawn over the past few months. and heard him mention team members going missing. and eventually realized... hasn't it been a long time since the last time he'd even seen Kaito?

but there he is, sitting with his back to one of the courtyard walls and watching people go by from a distance with a quietly wistful look on his face.]

[ harvey is his thing, though! he decided it. and he tries to avoid breaking his things unless they give him a good reason to, usually.

being in the Labyrinth is generally pretty nonconductive to not getting broken, though... although it's been oddly abandoned, as of late. there's no sign of the usual inhabitants but the occasional well-mauled and half-eaten corpse.

which is pretty convenient for Harvey's purposes, really! but that does mean there's something else down there that's been absoluely cleaning the place out... which might make it a little alarming when the first indication that there's anything still living down there is the sound of metal scraping on stones, loud enough for the source to be right around the next corner. ]

[It's a few days later that Tristan summons Kaito, outside the theater this time. Though if Harvey is around it's, well, almost an hour if Tristan sitting silently with his eyes open and unfocused outside.]

[ his heavy footsteps and the sound of his joints herald his arrival, but he doesn't say anything ]

[ ONE THEATER VISIT, a lot of attendants grumbling loudly about how much of a pain Kaito is to patch up and he should be glad they're being nice and not asking for a task for it because honestly, and a disgusting amount of silver exchanging hands later, Kaito has tentatively asked the attendant helping them out if there would be any way to remove or otherwise keep Tristan from accessing the controls he'd put in Kaito's head.

the answer: yes. but since they're pretty deeply embedded, the only way to do so would be to key them to a different person— essentially moving half of the tangled mess Tristan and Kaito had made from one person to another. no estimated price, either; apparently the payment required would depend on whoever the controls were being given to. ]

[ so it turns out when Kaito says he's making everybody dinner he does not fuck around

by which I mean there's a gigantic pot of udon with fried tofu in it, grilled fish in case Tristan wanted meat, and several assorted vegetabley side dishes and he looks really pleased with himself. ]

[So he's still a magikarp and today he's making breakfast, pancakes and eggs and coffee.]

[(un?)fortunately for all protagonists(?) involved the coffee grounds have been spiced with a mild love potion by someone. So that'll be fun.]

[ Kaito, on the other hand, is minus ears and tail and his eyes have stopped glowing. HE ALSO LOOKS (and feels, wow that is some exhausted and unsettled headachey grumpy) KIND OF LIKE HE WOULD LIKE TO FALL OVER AND NOT MOVE FOR A WHILE but the sight of Tristan making breakfast seems to help that significantly

[the door opens pretty quickly, and a tall tall redhead with one arm, mismatched eyes and weird rust-like sores on one cheek stares down at Jupiter in silence.]

[ SOMETIME BEFORE JUPITER and Tristan's nice breakfast, someone is being obnoxious and doing the mental equivalent of whining and tugging at pant legs

[ Well. Okay. It's a pretty familiar sight, for all Jupiter has changed. He's pretty much made himself comfortable in a bookfort, clearly meant to be a safe space just for him. He looks up when Tristan approaches. ]

[ today, apparently the bad associations being forced to do homework had formed with the library have worn off enough for Kaito to actually set foot in there again. not enough to keep him from giving the entire nonfiction section a wide berth, mind you, but. he's in there!

aaand going straight for the section with the trashy romance novels. classy. ]
